Do Trite Curse Words Really Help "Art"?
My latest take on OFB, tackling the subject of f-bombs and the like in current pop culture:
I’m tired of it. I’m tired of every currently running TV show someone tells me to watch being littered with content that might make even the proverbial sailor blush. With so many forms of entertainment now freed from the reach of the FCC’s decency rules, it is now countercultural if dialogue or song lacks a peppering of the coarsest words. Is this really the best we can do?
Zippy Episode 4
The Spirit Throughout
Jason Kettinger and I packed a LOT into this episode of Zippy the Wonder Snail. ๐๐๐ Hope youโll zip along with us as we touch on some very important topics!
The Snail returns! ๐๐๐ Timothy and Jason zip through topics hopeful (the #HolySpirit is with us!) and challenging (#ChurchToo and the need to stand against abuse in the church) alike. This packed episode also include a Facebook versus Twitter discussion, social media for #prayer, and a brief #EndTimes discussion. #UpperRoomDiscourse #RussellMoore #ERLC #SpiritualAbuse #OlivetDiscourse
The Weak Get Going? (June 7, 2021)
Persecution is a difficult topic to preach on. I don’t want to be persecuted, so saying, “That’s something God said would happen,” isn’t exactly a message I want to hear. But, when we understand how God works and what He calls us to do, at least the difficulties we face start to make more sense.
52 Verses, 52 Books, 52 Weeks (Week 23: Malachi)
Please join me for a trip to Malachi during 52 Verses - 52 Books - 52 Weeks. And, no, we’re not going to look at the “one verse” that always seems to get quoted there — there’s more to explore from this prophet!
Time Machines Need Not Apply
Everyone is bound to make mistakes when publishing large volumes of material, so it isn’t surprising — especially in a year like this last one — that the Verge’s Jacob Kastrenakes accidentally said the WarnerMedia-Discovery tie up would occur mid-2020 when he meant mid-2022. But the correction is just so good:
Correction June 1st, 3:45PM ET: The deal is expected to close in mid-2022, not in mid-2020 as this article initially misstated, which would require a time machine.
Phishers of Men (May 31, 2021)
As we continue our series “the Future is Here,” looking at the “Little Apocalypse” of Matthew 24-25, we dig into Jesus’s warnings about those who will lead many astray — false Messiahs and false prophets. Today, we have false pastors, politicians and more who often fit into those roles. Who are we prone to listening to whom we should not?
52 Verses, 52 Books, 52 Weeks (Week 22: Romans)
For Memorial Day, I turned to Romans to continue Little Hills’ 52 week journey through 52 Verses from 52 Books. I hope everyone has had a blessed Memorial Day weekend.
Zippy Episode 3
Hyper-Partisanship and the Old Klingon Proverb
Time to Zip! #ZippytheWonderSnail ๐๐๐
Tim and Jason zip through segments on the current Washington debate over infrastructure (with a visit to plans around space exploration, no less), the case for vaccination versus going “No-Vax,” the dangers of hyper-partisanship and the value of laughter.
How to Heal from Fraudulent Pastors
A great piece on an important topic from my friend Adam Smith. We need to talk about these things more as Christians for the sake of protecting Jesus’s bride, the Church, and those who form it.
A couple of weeks ago I tried to relocate an article about pastors that I had previously read. As I typed the words โPastors areโ into Google’s search bar, I was struck by the top suggested searches, particularly the first one. It read, โPastors are frauds.โ
As I read those words, it was a reminder that there are many silent-sufferers among us who have experienced great pain at the hands of fraudulent pastors. That shouldnโt surprise us, as we have seen the downfall of many prominent evangelical pastors and Catholic priests in recent years. Similarly, ample research exists, and enough stories have been told, that we should not be too surprised to learn about the presence of fraudulent pastors in our local churches either. It is simply far too common.
