True Riches, Wilting Riches (September 16, 2024)

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 6:50 PM

This week’s Steadfast:

We chase after riches, but what happens when those riches — and our lives — come to an end?

Sunday Sermon

It Looks Like a Perfect World (September 15, 2024)

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 10:30 PM

Sunday night’s message:

We instinctively read our circumstances as a verdict on where we stand with God—ease means favor, famine means failure. In Genesis 26, Isaac is stranded in exactly that famine, holding a promise that the land and its people seem to be disproving, and God’s answer to him isn’t immediate relief but something harder to trust.

Where Do I Find Real Wisdom? (September 9, 2024)

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 7:31 PM

This week’s Steadfast:

James calls us to look for the real wisdom of God rather than the “wisdom” we normally chase after.

The Low and Slow of Trials (September 2, 2024)

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 6:20 PM

Tonight’s Steadfast:

How do we understand the difficulties we face in life? James says we can find joy in them — how can that be?

Sunday Sermon

Why We Can't Hear What God Is Saying (June 23, 2024)

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 10:30 PM

This week’s sermon:

Clear words can still sail right past us when they aren’t the news we want. In Luke 18, Jesus tells the Twelve exactly what’s about to happen to Him, yet they were just like us: they didn’t want to hear.

There Ain't No Grave (May 12, 2024)

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 10:30 PM

Sunday night’s message:

We’ve all held something we couldn’t restore—a plan, a relationship, a season of life that’s gone dry—and kept clenching it anyway, as if sheer will might put flesh back on the bone. Naomi knew that feeling: she went away full and came back empty, and the Book of Ruth shows what God does with that kind of emptiness.

Staying in the Cemetery (April 14, 2024)

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 10:30 PM

This week’s sermon:

When commitment costs more than you have to give, and there’s a way out, the practical thing to do would be to take it. But, Ruth chooses to stay, speaking words we associate with weddings in the cold shadow of funerals. God calls us to be willing to hold fast in our darkest places, too.

Sunday Sermon

Call Me Mara (April 7, 2024)

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 10:30 PM

Sunday night’s message:

Problems pile on until life feels more like a grave than renewed life, and we wonder where God is. The Book of Ruth opens with Naomi back from Moab empty and bitter, renaming herself Mara because the Almighty has dealt harshly with her—still certain God is King, yet unable to see whether that King still loves her. Is there hope when we find ourselves feeling the same way?

Sunday Sermon

Doubt Is Not the Enemy (October 29, 2023)

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 10:30 PM

Sunday night’s message:

Have you ever spoken boldly about your faith, only to find yourself later asking if any of it is real? Even John the Baptist, who once pointed everyone to Jesus as the promised one, sends messengers in Luke 7 to ask, “Are you the one who is to come, or shall we look for another?”

Is the Stove Off? (January 23, 2023)

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 7:24 PM

This week’s Steadfast:

When things are tough, how do we have confidence in God’s promises?
