I'm in the Dark and So Are You (September 21, 2026)

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 7:00 PM

Tonight’s message:

As daylight fades earlier each evening, familiar rooms become harder to navigate—and life can darken just as predictably. In 2 Corinthians 1:7–11, Paul refuses to minimize an affliction so crushing that he despaired of life itself. His words confront the question that surfaces when relief does not come: where can hope rest when personal strength is gone?

The Comfort Food of Grace (September 14, 2026)

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 7:00 PM

This week’s Steadfast:

When things feel overwhelming, you reach for comfort food—a buttery potato, a square of chocolate—knowing none of it will fix the job or the diagnosis. In 2 Corinthians 1:3–6, Paul calls God “the God of all comfort” while placing that comfort squarely in the midst of affliction, not beyond it. When God does not remove the pain, could comfort be arriving in a form you did not expect?

Don't Burn the Burger (September 7, 2026)

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 7:00 PM

Tonight’s message:

When repeated failure makes a person look like a lost cause, writing them off can feel less like cruelty than common sense. Yet Paul opens 2 Corinthians 1 by addressing a fractured, correction-resistant congregation as “the church of God” and “saints”—then speaking grace and peace over people who appear to deserve neither.

You Are Not Junk (August 31, 2026)

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 7:00 PM

Tonight’s Steadfast:

If we’re all fools, what’s it matter if one fool hurts another? Does anything matter? To God, the answer is it does — and not all fools are alike because of Him.

Sunday Devotional

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 1:48 PM
The latest This Week at Little Hills:

Pastor Tim turns to Joel to think about what God promises to do — and what that tells us about “the Last Days” right now.

God's Gaze Is Enough: Are You a Functional Atheist? (April 27, 2026)

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 12:00 AM

Tonight’s Steadfast:

You’re driving through a late-March snowstorm, visibility gone, familiar exits slipping past unseen, when a sign appears: St. Louis, 100 miles. The number ticks downward even while the snow keeps falling. Psalm 13 speaks to that same stretch of road in the soul—where personal turmoil and global chaos converge, God seems silent, and the plea rises: “Look at me, answer me, revive me, or else I will die.” The question is whether any sign of the kingdom can still be trusted.

Sunday Sermon

Toast Falls, Life Rises (April 19, 2026)

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 10:30 PM

This week’s sermon:

We know we’re going to die—it’s as inevitable as buttered toast landing face-down—but Romans 6:5 asks whether that death has to mean the same thing it did before Christ.

Dead to Sin, Alive to Mission (April 12, 2026)

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 10:30 PM

Sunday night’s message:

A voyage to the moon can feel finished once splashdown comes and the pictures stop, yet those who flew it insist it is only the start. Romans 6 challenges us to see the same of Easter: we’re not at the end of our old debt, but the beginning of our new life in Jesus.

Sunday Sermon

Everything Turns to Ash (April 5, 2026)

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 10:30 PM

This week’s sermon:

We are good at recognizing what is wrong—and remarkably bad at fixing it. Isaiah 1 warns that the strong become tinder and their work a spark, exposing every human effort we trust to make life secure and lasting. What hope does Easter offer when the things we build, the solutions we devise, and even our own strength end in ash?

When the Ground Looks Empty

A Holy Week Meditation

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 7:12 PM
My column this week:

Don’t you just love spring flowers? Here we are, coming up to Easter and spring flowers are blooming outside. But the process of planting spring bulbs is really kind of strange if you think about it.
