Could I Ask a Favor?
By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 3:31 AM
I'm trying to finish my pingback/trackback client implementation for SAFARI. I set up a copy of WordPress to use as a test target, but it isn't working right (my WordPress installation can't seem to locate the test entries I posted on it). Would any asisaid reader using WordPress be willing to allow me to send some test pings/trackbacks to an old blog pos on your site? It would be a lot easier if I was testing against a WP installation that I knew was in working order.
Thanks in advance! I'll provide extra asisaid points — how about 30? — for willing victi… volunteers.

Go for it. You, as always, may use WIT.
Not sure if you need it but if you want a login you can have one of those too.
Re: Could I Ask a Favor?
Thanks, Christopher! I don’t think I’ll need a login, but I really appreciate that too!
Re: Could I Ask a Favor?
Apparently it worked. I don’t know exactly what WP will do with the information, but when I sent your site the ping, I got a success response back:
Pingback from http://asisaid.com/journal/ to http://www.whatintarnation.net/blog/archives/2005/01/15/the-city-museum/ registered. Keep the web talking!
Thanks again, Christopher!
Re: Could I Ask a Favor?
Is pingback and trackback the same thing?
Normally when a trackback is sent it will add a comment. I guess though it has to be from a post to do that because it will add a portion of the text from your post.
If they are different, which did you do?
Re: Could I Ask a Favor?
Feel free to do so on me as well Tim if you want another test case. You might also look around for a B2evo blog. They seem to operate differently.
Re: Could I Ask a Favor?
Christopher, I did a pingback. It’s a little different. Apparently WordPress’s default method is to do automatic pingbacks and manual trackbacks (which is probably good — sometimes you might not want to leave a big trackback on someone else’s site for just a little link).
A pingback, so I’ve learned this week, merely sends the URL of the page that is linking to a given page. On the other hand, the trackbacking system leaves the whole kit and kaboodle. So, I think I’ll follow what WordPress does and pingback each site I link to but only trackback if I tell it to do so specifically. I’m hoping to try trackbacking today. Thanks again!
Josiah: Thanks for the offer, it would be good, I am sure, to test against more than one site. A B2evo would probably be wise, as would a MT blog once I move to trackbacking.
Re: Could I Ask a Favor?
Tim, since I’m mostly offline, just tell me by email what do you need. If my blog can be of assistance, I’ll be happy.
