About Fantastico
By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 12:14 AM
Eduardo upgraded to WordPress 1.2.2 the other day, and when he did, I asked him if he had used Fantastico to perform the upgrade. Ed followed my advice to Eduardo and that killed his blog. Well, not really, but it made it look like it had choked. As it turned out, Fantastico did not run the upgrade.php script included in WordPress, and thus the database was not arranged properly.
I checked around Fantastico and could not find a way to fix it directly from there. But, running the aforementioned script did the trick just fine. I thought I'd share this in case anyone else tried to follow my advice.

RE: About Fantastico
What Tim didn’t say is that I compared my blog situation to being an infant with a messy diaper. Tim, you are a great provider of web services!
RE: About Fantastico
I have always done upgrades to WP manually to avoid craziness like this.
RE: About Fantastico
Did fantastico not warn about this? If it did I know I wouldn’t have noticed it. I’m curios about Fantastico’s polish as a tool.
RE: About Fantastico
Ed; Aw, thanks!
Christopher: Yeah, I guess that has its advantages. Really, Fantastico still made it easier, but I now know that you should have a copy of the installation instructions handy just in case it doesn’t finish the job.
Josiah: I’m not sure. Ed did the actual upgrade process, and I don’t have any other WP 1.0 installations to repeat the procedure on, so I’m not sure what Fantastico said. I’m not entirely pleased with Fantastico’s polish, but as a whole it seems decent. Sort of like cPanel itself. At times, its somewhat buggy, and Plesk looks visually nicer, but as a whole it seems to be the best overall tool for the job.
