Give Me an Assignment!

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 1:32 AM

You get to decide what to post to your own blog, but what about someone else's? Here's your chance to boss me around. The readers of asisaid can discuss what they would like me to post about, and I will blog about the topic agreed upon by the comment posters to this post. Here's a few requirements: (1) it should be a topic I can discuss within a typical sized post, certainly not more than two pages and (2) it should not require research of any substantial sort. If you were thinking of assigning me to write the book you always wish had been written, I'm sorry, but I cannot promise I'll do that.

So what do you think? Post your ideas below. I will not be commenting in the comments for this post — it is up to you and your fellow asisaid readers to come to a consensus on this.

RE: Give Me an Assignment!

I was just thinking that I’d like to read an article about the many FOSS focused Christian comminity sites out there. I think that the last few months, especially the last few weeks we’ve been seeing the communities meld together with greater cross-over in the membership lists causing a bit more unity and power to develop.

This was an idea that I’d do, but don’t feel I quite have the position to see it as clearly as I’d want to. Maybe you do since you host some of these sites.

Yeah, what he said! I think that would be a great article. I would also suggest one on software of particular interest to Christians (notice I did not say “Christian software”…) such as Bibletime and Gnome Sword.

I’ll vote for that. Christians and Open Source are a natural fit, and I don’t yet have enough variety in fellowship. Put some road signs, Tim!

Too bad he doesn’t want to do any serious research, I’d ask about piracy among Christians. Are we more, less, or equally likely to pirate software as non believers?

What’s a FOSS?

RE: Give Me an Assignment!

Yeah, what is a FOSS? Can’t say that I have heard that before.

I am betting just as likely to pirate.

Christmas, buy lots of gifts for friends and family or don’t and encourage people to not buy you anything… Discuss.

Well, I’ll break my rule and comment: FOSS is “Free and Open Source Software.” Interesting suggestions, I’ll let this sit a few more days before going with whatever the prevailing topic is.

RE: Give Me an Assignment!

This is great! Thank you for giving us the opportunity to “give you an assignment”! In reality, there is a plethora of questions that I’d love to ask; things that I’d love to see you write about.

But, I will keep the number of questions at 1, because this is going to be an interesting one, indeed…

I pray that you have heard of the “Gap Theory” in regards to Genesis Chapter one, verses one and two (Genesis 1:1-2). There are theologians and lay people, alike, who are absolute proponents of this issue.

Do you believe there was a gap (or a span of time) that occured between Genesis 1, verses 1 and 2? In other words, what are your thoughts regarding a pre-Adamite civilization?

This is a subject that I came upon recently and I grew up in a Baptist church. I was blessedly born again at 9 and I cannot get enough when it comes to studying, researching and reading the Word. So, this one is pretty new to me and it would really help if you’d give me your thoughts on this subject.

Thank you for your time (By the way, there is a great website that supports the Gap position and will, perhaps, help you and it’s http://www.kjvbible.org.)

God bless you as I know He will, Barb

Barbara brings an interesting idea. Answers in Genesis also has many great resources.
