QOTW: Memory
By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 12:54 AM
Memory is a funny thing. I turned on my PowerBook with a definite idea for a blog entry and now I have forgotten it completely.
Fortunately, this leads logically into this week's QOTW meme: Do you find yourself forgetting things frequently? Do you usually recall these things are have they disappeared into the abyss? What's the last thing you can recall forgetting (no, that is not any oxymoron)?
Post your remembrances of forgetting below or post the answer to your blog and then trackback to this post.

What was this post about again?!? scratches head
This has become a big problem for me in the past 5 years. Some of it is medical. The rest… At least some of it is treatable. I bought a PDA but forgot to take it with me. I fixed that by buying a PDA phone (I rarely forget the phone), but don’t remember to check the calendar and tasks. The biggest help is when/where I can simplify my life - not always an option as a youth pastor and seminarian.

I always forget things, but then I always write lists - which kind of compensates
RE: QOTW: Memory
They refer to Adult ADD as learning disability, but it’s actually a recall disability. Getting the stuff into the head is not a problem, but getting it back out is. The pathways degrade much more rapidly and more thoroughly than for normal people. Bits of information become disassociated from the framework of memory — I recall a phone number from OKC, but can’t recall what it’s for, only that it comes from 20 years ago. If I do not organize to the hilt, I will get nothing done.
Most things that slip my mind when needed come back later when not needed. Very few things fall into the abyss, they just become disassociated. The event that is supposed to trigger the memory passes registered. It resurfaces under some other stimulus, perhaps the association that created it. Most recently I went into to town for several errands. The one that got lost was buying milk.

I will go to the tool crib at work to get a part and as soon as I pick up the scaanner to get the part I have forgotton what I went in there for.

Flip: I never read my lists is my problem.
Ed: That’s interesting, I did not realize that.
Michael: Sounds like me!
