Cedar.ServerForest.com Status
By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 1:27 PM
Since I know a number of ServerForest users are aware of (and I suspect read — and some I know read for that matter) this blog, I thought I'd post this status update here:
At 10:00 this morning CDT [GMT-600], Slashdot.org began linking to two articles on the Open for Business web site. This has caused temporary connectivity problems for HTTP connections that may impact your ability to view all sites on Cedar. The server has remained online the entire time and the problems appear to be clearing up as of 12:30 CDT.
Any further updates will go in the comments.

RE: Cedar.ServerForest.com Status
Everything seems to have returned to normal. The server survived the heavy pounding without any problems beyond Apache’s connections being maxed out. I might have to try the “Tux” web server some day.

Yeah, sure. Just keep looking for excuses to have us slashdotted. Just the right occasion for testing the server, eh? Don’t you just love cheap publicity? chuckle
RE: Cedar.ServerForest.com Status
What’s your slashdotted count now? Since I’ve know you there have been several. Is this Cedar’s third storm?
RE: Cedar.ServerForest.com Status
I’m not keeping count. Besides, Tim is the one submitting the site to Slashdot, as far as I can tell. My younger brother notices and encourages me, then posts strong responses to some of the flames — anonymously, of course. It’s nice to have backing.
RE: Cedar.ServerForest.com Status
Well, I’m not sure — I think it might be Cedar’s second one of any magnitude (there was one time earlier this year when we got on the BSD page at Slashdot, but that doesn’t have that much traffic) — I had a “dry spell” with success at Slashdot. This is the first time something I personally submitted to Slashdot caused a link to Cedar.
Overall, OfB’s probably been Slashdotted at least a dozen times now on various servers. Thanks to a php-caching progam, it no longer kills servers when it happens either.
