Stupid Me

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 12:18 AM

I kept wondering why my one client wasn't paying his invoice. I even went into the software and told it to do reminder invoices tonight. Of course, it was only a short while ago I remembered that the said client had me update the e-mail links on his site for his new e-mail address… I've been sending the invoices to the wrong address!

If you haven't already caught Jared's posts (and related comments) on Berg and the prisoner abuse scandal, take a look at them, they are both insightful. They are here and here, respectively.

RE: Jared's post

I read Jared’s post but I could not find any comments regarding the horrific killing of the non-combatant person. What our troops did was beyond stupid but I think alot of people, religious and none religious alike, are finding it hard to “take that extra step” and condemn it when 911, and other such events are still fresh in our minds. Not long ago we were talking about the contractors that were killed and then mutilated in such an inhuman way that it shocked all of us. And when the reportor was decapitated, did we add that to our list of horrible acts that seems to fill our news screens every night? What about when the World Trade Center was first attacked? Yes the first attempt. How about the USS Cole and its bombing? The 2002 killing of U.S. diplomat Laurence Foley. And the list goes on and on.

I agree with Jarod’s idea that we as a Christian people need to raise our collective voices when things are wrong. But at what level does our pain and grief override that ability?

RE: Stupid Me

I’m not entirely, sure, Mark. It’s an interesting point, but I suspect if we ever want to get out of Iraq in a successful matter (i.e. where we leave it as a nice, stable democracy, if that’s possible), we must strongly condemn the actions that took place, despite everything else.

On the other hand, note Jared’s other post concerning Berg. I find it speaks volumes just that Hezbollah, of all organizations, is condemning Berg’s awful murder. I’ve seen it some other places now, but Jared’s was the first place I found that bit of information.

Nothing would make me happier then to see all the troops come home. Will it happen anytime soon? Who knows but that doesn’t stop me from praying for it every night. Will Iraq ever be a stable democracy, IMHO, no. And it pains me to say this but, when we leave I suspect the next extremist will just pick up where Saddam left off. I pray that I am completely wrong and that region will someday have peace.
