Spam Bill

What do you think? Today, the possibility of having a federal law enacted on spam became a lot more likely — is this a good thing? A bad thing? Something in between? I kind of have mixed feelings. It's good to crack down on spam, but at the same time, the government often creates a regulatory mess when it tries stuff like this…

think it’s silly. No law should be enacted that we do not have the ability to enforce. Washington state already has a very similar law. But, the State Attorney’s office does nothing because the cost of prosecution divided by the conviction rate is higher than the fines they will actually receive.

This will be great it will keep me from having to deleate 70-200 junk emails a day.

I think of it as a bitter sweet pleasure. It’s a political win without any real digital returns for awhile I suspect. Mostly a good way for a bunch of politicians to get re-elected. I’m not sure the government should even put their hands into this anyway.

Good News! The government is DOING SOMETHING about SPAM! Bad News! The GOVERNMENT is doing something about spam!

I agree it’s likely to be unenforceable, and will do us about as much good as the raise the Senate just gave themselves.
