Unraveling

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 8:11 AM

I was more than a bit surprised when I saw commentators start noting ways Apple's presentations were becoming less well organized post-Jobs. In particular, various folks mentioned the ambiguous “new iPad” name, the play on words used to launch the product and the colorful Apple logo at the end. Matt Thomas deals with these points very succinctly.

Incidentally, am I the only one to note that the lack of a numerical qualifier after the name iPad simply puts the iPad within the naming conventions always applied to the iPod family?

Re: Unraveling

I was thinking the same thing, Tim. It follows tradition to call it the iPad. I think people are trying too hard to look for problems that don’t exist. I wonder if it’s a collective need to idolize Jobs as Demi-God.

Re: Unraveling

The flaw of human genius in this context is what happens when the genius dies. To the degree Apple is whatever Jobs demanded it be, it now has to be something else. Some things won’t change much, but invariably some things will. It’s fun to watch from the outside, because I am neither a fan nor hostile.

Re: Unraveling

Caedmon, I think you are right.

Ed, unless part of Jobs’s genius was surrounding himself with visionary people who influenced the composite vision of Apple. I think Jobs was the driving force, but I think Cook, Schiller, Ive and Company potentially made up enough of the vision that they can carry on. Of course, changes will have to happen, because even under Jobs changes happened…
