Mountain Lion

Apple's program of making Mac OS X more iOS-like looks like it is really going to bear fruit in Mountain Lion. Bringing iMessage to the Mac seems natural and Notifications is an obvious integration of the functionality Growl had added to most Macs for years now. Clearly the big feature, however, is deeper iCloud integration, promising to allow data to flow seamlessly from Mac to iPad to iPhone.
I'm anxious to see how this turns out.

Anyone talking about system requirements and reaource usage? I’m hoping the talk of losing cruft results in improved response. Lion pushes my 2.5 yr MBP to its limit.

I’m using a 2.5 year old MBP too without issues with Lion. What’s yours doing? It sounds like Mountain Lion is going to have tougher requirements, but those sound like they are oriented towards video cards, which shouldn’t be a problem with an MBP.

It’s not so much that it’s “doing” anything, but that any time I use the fullscreen feature, the system bogs down horribly. Since the upgrade, my machine has just seemed a little off - wonky. Needs to be rebooted more often. Gets hung up loading apps more often.
The release that came out in 2005 added new features, but also removed or cleaned up a lot of old code. A selling point - which turned out to be anecdotally accurate - was that as long as you met the system requirements, it should actually run better than the previous version due to the work under the hood.
Or, maybe this will be the excuse needed to buy a new machine in the fall?

Perhaps so!
Otherwise, you might put the “new machine money” towards a nice SSD. I moved my 2009 MBP to a Crucial M4 SSD a couple of months ago. Not waiting on a mechanical drive has made a world of difference!
