"Don't Be Evil" Leads to Evil (July 6, 2026)

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 5:20 PM

This week’s Steadfast:

When we try to live by “Don’t Be Evil,” we find that we end up being evil in the end. There’s a better way.

Sunday Sermon

Recognize and Respond (July 5, 2026)

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 10:30 PM

This week’s sermon:

We’ve all known someone’s birthday was coming, kept it in the back of our minds, and then realized two weeks too late that we never said a word—recognized it, but never responded. In Matthew 8, the demons who meet Jesus call him “Son of God” with more clarity than almost anyone else in the Gospel, yet that recognition leads somewhere unexpected and deeply unsettling.

Don't Be "Don't Be Evil," Be Good (June 29, 2026)

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 5:55 PM

Tonight’s message:

Most of us feel satisfied if we manage not to do evil—if we avoid the obvious wrongs, the cruelties we can see. But there’s a quieter failure Proverbs 3:27–28 names: the moment when you know exactly what good you could do, right now, and you choose not to do it. Google once promised not to be evil as it rose above other tech firms, yet the real challenge—for companies and individuals alike—comes in everyday decisions about whether to give good or hold it back. When does restraint from wrongdoing become complicity with harm?

A Bad Grade on the Paper of Life (June 28, 2026)

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 12:00 AM

Sunday night’s message:

Listening to Jesus is one thing; trusting him when the waves are coming over the sides of the boat is another—and most of us know the difference from the inside. In Matthew 8, seasoned fishermen who have already followed Jesus into the storm find their faith put to exactly that test.

Geeking Out on Prime Day 2026

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 6:14 PM
My latest piece:

Prime Day isn’t quite the keyboard gripping mad dash for deals it was the heady days of the mid-2010’s. Back then, Amazon had hour by hour changes to the “decor,” musical performances and — my personal favorite — an emphasis on lightning deals that were extremely good, but limited and appearing throughout. With a four earth days to one Prime Day exchange rate and similar Big Spring Sale, Prime Big Deal Days, Black Friday, Cyber Monday and the competitors’ answers — phew — it feels like less of a standout event each year, but there are still some genuinely good deals if you look. Here are a few of my favorite TestyTim-approved options.

We Need the Approved Ranch (June 22, 2026)

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 2:01 PM

Tonight’s message:

We can gather up what feels like security, but are we actually secure? Proverbs challenges to make sure we have the right point of security.

Sunday Devotional

This Week at Little Hills - Joel (June 21, 2026)

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 1:48 PM
The latest This Week at Little Hills:

Pastor Tim turns to Joel to think about what God promises to do — and what that tells us about “the Last Days” right now.

Where's the Cream Filling? (June 21, 2026)

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 12:00 AM

This week’s sermon:

It is easy to want Jesus for the healing, peace, and confidence he gives while keeping the rest of life safely under our control. In Matthew 8, however, the One who heals the sick also tells would-be disciples that the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head. What does it mean to follow him rather than merely watch?

Apple's Skating in the Right Direction, But the Puck is Still Ahead

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 7:13 PM
My column this week:

With the 2026 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), I’m cautiously optimistic Apple is finally seeing what some of us have been saying for years. Having fumbled its big unveilings since at least 2023, while AI whizzed right past it, a glimmer of hope is emerging. Is it well founded?

Choose Your Own Adventure (June 15, 2026)

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 6:06 PM

This week’s Steadfast:

Can we choose our own adventure wisdom? The Bible says “no” for a very important reason.
