Whom Do We Serve? (September 19, 2022)

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 7:00 PM

As we conclude this Psalm, we turn to the question of what are we going to do? Are we making the right choices with our service?

Who I Voted For

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 9:14 PM

Michael had the good idea to post who/what he was going to vote for today. I thought I'd do the same — if nothing else for something interesting to look back on in a few years.

Federal Offices
U.S. Senator: Christopher “Kit” Bond (Incumbent)

U.S. Representative - District 2: Todd Akin (Incumbent who replaced then Governor hopeful and now U.S. Senator Jim Talent, who retired from congress in 2000) [Unopposed.]

State-wide Offices
Governor: Matt Blunt (Secretary of State, going against Incumbent Bob Holden or possibly new Democrat Claire McCaskil). [Winning as of 8:00 PM with 3% of precincts reporting.]

Lieutenant Governor: Peter Kinder (State Senator [side note: the only politician I have ever heard Rush Limbaugh endorse through an ad on the radio]). [Winning as of 8:00 PM with 3% of precincts reporting.]

Secretary Of State: Catherine Hanaway (Speaker of State House) [Unopposed]

State Treasurer: Sarah Steelman (State Senator) [Winning as of 8:00 PM with 3% of precincts reporting.]

Attorney General: Chris Byrd [Winning as of 8:00 PM with 3% of precincts reporting.]

Local Offices
Circuit judge Circuit 11 Division 1: Jeff Morrison (Fmr. St. Peters City Alderman. In the general election, I'll probably vote for Democrat Ted House, who I usually vote for — whatever office it is he may be running for — he's a good guy.) [Winning by 4 votes (less than 1%) as of 8:10 PM with 13% of precincts reporting.]

State representative 16th District (Rep): Carl Bearden (Incumbent) [Unopposed]

State senator 23rd District: Chuck Gross (Incumbent) [Unopposed]

Local Propositions
Proposition R (Extend 0.5% Sales Tax for road work): No [Passing as of 8:00 PM with 13% of precincts reporting.]

Propositions and Amendments
Constitutional Amendment 1 (Riverboat Gambling on White River near Branson [Rockaway Beach): No [Failing by 10 point margin as of 8:00 PM with 3% of precincts reporting.]

Constitutional Amendment 2 (Codify marriage as between a man and a woman): Yes [Passing by over 60 point margin as of 8:00 PM with 3% of precincts reporting.]

Who Copied Whom?

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 6:12 AM

Since Apple has been busy with their patent suits against Android phone manufacturers, certain parties have made claims about how Android was already going where Apple headed with an all touchscreen phone before the iPhone. Thus, a presentation the Verge discovered which presents what an Android phone was originally suppose to look like is enlightening:

Exact specs for those first concepts aren't detailed, but Google does spell out what it had in mind for the least common denominator across Android devices. […] At that time, touchscreen support wasn't a requirement — in fact, the baseline specs required two soft menu keys, indicating that touchscreens weren't really in the plan at all.

Keep in mind that this plan was communicated a month or so before the iPhone launched and over year before Android finally came to market in the United States. Google was clearly aiming to copy the BlackBerry until the iPhone completely changed what people wanted in a phone. To his credit, Thom Holwerda, who has been a vocal critic of this suggestion in the past, has admitted that this new revelation shows he was wrong.

White Christmas

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 5:41 AM

In recognition of us now being in the month of December and the fact that there is plenty of white stuff out on the lawn, I figured a little rendition of “White Christmas” would be fitting. And, with that in mind, what could be better than one that comes straight from Santa and his reindeer?

Whirlwind Continued

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 10:15 PM

Well, I'm just taking a very momentary break. I'm still pretty far behind due to the problems mentioned in my last post, so I must get back to work, but I thought I'd stop by and say “hi” first. ;-) I'm just hoping tomorrow I can post a few good things at WIT!?!?!?! and also get to visit the 40 Days of Purpose board that Christopher set up….

Whirlwind 36 Hours

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 4:23 AM

Years ago, my family would go down to the Ozarks every fall around the beginning of September. After my grandparents died, however, that tradition sort of went by the wayside as other things came up. Last week, my mother suggested perhaps we should try to fit in a trip before my classes started back up on August 28. We watched the weather, and when yesterday looked rather promising, we set off on the 250 or so mile trek down to Table Rock Lake for a day. It was a fun time and also a nice test to see how the Beetle did on the highway. It started out the trip with only 600 miles on the trip gage and came back with nearly 1,200. :)

I'll post more tomorrow, hopefully.

Whirlwind

Well, things have been hectic the last week. Catching up with business, personal and church work has pretty much consumed every last moment of time. I finally got most everything done yesterday. So today was mostly free, which is nice (especially nice since my free day collided with my birthday :-)). At any rate, I haven't abandoned asisaid, I just haven't had time the last few days.

I should be able to resume a regular posting schedule here and at Sakamuyo, now.

Whirlwind

By Timothy R Butler | Posted at 6:10 AM

This week has been a whirlwind. Today, on the other hand, was quiet. That can be both good and bad. The good is that with seminary being snowed out, I spent my time getting ahead in the readings. I'm now about a week ahead on one class and on track with another. I'd like to keep trying to get ahead, because there is a good likelihood one or more classes may expedite things next week, given the missing day (and the fact that two of the classes that were canceled are once-a-week classes).

I spent too much time thinking, though, and that can be a dangerous thing. I shouldn't think and drive. Or something like that. ;)

So, how's the weather in your neck of the blogosphere?

Are we prepared for Jesus’s return? Pastor Tim continues our series in Matthew 24-25, looking this week at Jesus’s call that we always be prepared.

Wheels o' Fun

It looks like I'm a Ferris Wheel, although playing around with the poll revealed that I was almost a “kiddie ride” instead.

See what amusement park ride you are.

[Thanks to Christopher.]
