I had the blessing of delivering this message reflecting on God's very different way of “doing business” from our own on February 12, 2017. The text of the sermon is from Matthew 20:1-16.

Sermon Notes

  1. God relentlessly seeks _________________ (vv. 1-8)
  2. God is overly _________________ (vv. 9-10)

Do the workers have a ___________________?

God is ______________ — we are those who need his __________________.

Community Group Questions

Opening Question

1.) Have you ever been in a situation where someone who contributed far less at work or school received as much credit as you did? How did you feel? If it bothered you when it happened, does it still bother you now?

Study Questions

Read Matthew 20:1—16.

2.) The passage shows workers who are idle for increasingly long spans of the day. What should we make of the workers who have been waiting for work?

3.) What happens in the previous passage, Matthew 19:23-30, that helps to explain why Jesus would tell this parable to the people?

Application

4.) What are some of the ways we can fall into the trap of thinking that others aren't worthy of receiving the same forgiveness that the Lord provides to us?

5.) When we recognize how God had given us far more than we deserve, how should that motivate us to act differently towards others around us?
