I thought maybe I’d try to revive my old Question of the Week meme. Feel free to participate here or on your own blog. I'll update this post with my own answer later on. I've included my answer.
What is your favorite content management system (CMS, e.g. Moveable Type, PHP-Nuke, WordPress, Drupal, etc.)? Why? How long have you used it?
Update: That's tough. At the cost of sounding biased, I'd probably say SAFARI, which runs this blog. I've used it in various ways for about six years, and familiarity is certainly one of the big reasons I like it. But even more importantly, since I've written the code, it acts mostly how I want it to. It isn't perfect by any means, but I've had the ability to carefully avoid certain things that annoy me in other CMSes I've used.![]()

I liked WordPress well enough, but found it too complicated for my little brain. Nice feature set for settings, but too often missing the oddball stuff I wanted, and I never could find any mods that helped. I can’t remember what they were.
SAFARI works really nice, but I realize there are many more features to come which I currently miss.
Blog: Self PHP written tool w/n comments, then moved to Orca for about a year. Horrible at handling comment spam so I went back to my old system and added comments. Trust me there is no gee wiz about it and most folks would hate it. But for me it works great.
Pics: Self written php/javascript thing, then moved to 4Images.
There are no templates, no themes, and no bloat. Just some functional code in the process of being coverted into OO, and a style sheet.
Depends on the purpose, but here’s my list of first considerations:
Drupal, WordPress, Xoops, mediawiki, pmwiki
