I was introduced to a new donut company this morning: LeMar's. Well, it isn't a new donut company, but it seems to be relatively new to St. Louis and it only has one location, in Creve Coeur, at the moment.
I've now tried two of their huge, $.75 donuts, and I'm fairly happy with them. This morning, I had a lemon jelly donut. It was probably close to twice the size of an average jelly donut, was very soft and had a good icing on it. The lemon wasn't the tartest, but it was good. Just a little while ago, I tried another one, a German chocolate donut, that was excellent.
As a whole, LeMar's isn't as tasty as Krispy Kreme, I'd say, but I'll stop again. LeMar's claims the Rocky Mountain News chose their donuts over Krispy Kreme and Dunkin' Donuts (as well as others). While I'd probably agree that the donuts I enjoyed today where better than Dunkin' Donuts by quite a bit, I suspect it was a bit of hometown pride on the part of the News to pass up Krispy Kreme for first place. That's my professional donut eating story and I'm sticking to it.

I like doughnuts enough to eat them when they are offered, but I would hardly stop for that alone, regardless of quality. OTOH, if I were to pass a Belgian pastry shop, I’d stop a busload and make them wait while I picked up a “choco-bollen” or strawberry tart with chocolate bottom.
Given my sporting life style it should come as no suprise that I honestly don’t remember the last time I ate a donut. Adding to the honesty, I don’t miss them at all. Sorta like ice cream. Give me a nice tall glass of milk with Paul Newman’s Fig Newtons and I am one happy guys.
I know, I’m strange.
The best over donuts I’ve had were hot out of the fryer at a stand at London Zoo.
But LeMars’ donuts are excellent.
Ed: Have you ever had a fresh Krispy Kreme Original Glazed, right out of the cooking machine?
Mark: Yeah, we already knew that.
Just kidding, but if you don't like donuts or ice cream, it makes me wonder!
Timothy: I'm sure those would be good. I love fresh donuts.
Now you’ve made me hungry
Sorry, Flip.
No, Tim. I’ve never been that close to a KK franchise since I can remember. I’ve had doughnuts fresh, but I like other things better. For example: “choco-bollen” is essentially a popover shot full of a sort of whipped cream (not available here, I’d guess) and the whole thing is dipped in a chocoloate icing that is always hand-made. Virtually every backery in the Netherlands an Belgium is also a hand-made candy shop.
I admit that sounds very tasty. I’m betting you’d like the Krispy Kreme whipped creme filled chocolate iced donute… perhaps not as good as that, but pretty good.
