There are a lot of folks who can’t understand how we came to have an oil shortage here in America.
Well, there’s a very simple answer. Nobody bothered to check the oil. We just didn’t know we were getting low. The reason for that is purely geographical.
All our oil is in Alaska, Texas, California, and Oklahoma.
All our dipsticks are in Washington, DC.

Good one, Tim, even if I’ve seen it a dozen times. It stays funny.
I found it even more humorous when recent research found that oil is definitely not a fossil fuel, and that it appears to be self-renewing. Old pools out in the Gulf of Mexico are refilling with fresh crude.
Thanks, Ed.
That's interesting about the thing in the Gulf. Where do you suppose the crude is coming from? Think Jed Clampett is around there to find it?
hehe
The current theory involves compressed gases, etc. Deep drilling projecs have run into pockets of gases considered precursors of petroleum, and speculation is that the gases are ubiquitous underground. Details are fuzzy and I can’t find the reference just now.
‘course, there are dipsticks in California (Bay Area)… They just don’t keep them near the oil… the key is to watch the signs… if you are driving around and see lots of windmills, then you are in dipstick territory… you see old abandonded oil rigs… no dipsticks…
