A Dream Deferred

By Timothy R. Butler | Posted at 23:54:50

What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore—
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over—
like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.

Or does it explode?

Langston Hughes had just the right touch with words to make his famous poem graphic without being over the top. And, of course, he asks a mighty powerful question.

Re: A Dream Deferred

A dream deferred withers like a rose bush, waiting seemingly forever until you water it again.
