Farewell

Yesterday was the final day of broadcasting for KFUO-FM CLASSIC99. Our sign-off was at 10pm. Our final piece was Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 - the 1st choice of our listeners for many years.

It was a truly sad day to see St. Louis lose its only classical music radio station. I hope someone else comes in to fill the gap.

UPDATED THOUGHT: I think the LCMS really provided a vital ministry by combining music written by those God had most richly musically gifted over the centuries and the various Lutheran programs that were mixed in. This was far more of a “radio missions field” than what replaces it, a purely “Christian” music station that will almost certainly only preach to the choir.

Re: Farewell

KWMU-3 Classical?

Online or HD radio (but won't just about everything go to Digital Radio before too long?)

Re: Farewell

I was under the impression LCMS was keeping the call letters and such, and simply selling the facility. However, I seem to recall the folks who run that part of their mission are an entrenched group with whom a large portion of the denominational membership are very, very unhappy. There have been a lot of decisions made, unmade and remade without what I consider to be due regard for the constituency. I'm no longer acquainted with LCMS politics, but I do know I would be very unlikely to work with them again if asked.

Re: Farewell

Timothy, my radios don't do HD radio, so… for now…

Ed: I think you are right about this being a very politicized thing within the LCMS. I'm still not sure what they are trying to accomplish.
