A more content filled post didn’t happen today, sorry. I will post again soon. In the mean time, I’ll continue to speak in carols.
Today's carol is "O Little Town of Bethlehem." I think the carol captures perfectly the situation of the nativity. How true that the mortals slept while the King of the Universe was born in a lowly manger. How odd that little Bethlehem is still while the event it has awaited finally happens.
O little town of Bethlehem,
How still we see the lie!
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by;
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light;
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee to-night.For Christ is born of Mary,
And gathered all above,
While mortals sleep, the angels keep
Their watch of wondering love.
O morning stars, together
Proclaim the holy birth!
And praises sing to God the King,
And peace to men on earth.

Good one. In my cranky old age, I have begun to lose interest in carols not backed by Scripture. This one is, as opposed to say, Away in a Manger. Poetic license is one thing; pious lying is another.
I’ve always, even as a child had a dislike for Away in a Manger, though as a child it was more because I thought the music was stupid.
Oh Little Town of Bethlehem is a great pick. The story of the shepherds loudly proclaiming to one and all what the angels said and what they saw always excites me. Zooming the lens out I am always in awe that lowly shepherds worshiped, while the king attempted to kill the King.
Ed: I’d definitely pick this over “Away in a Manger,” as well.
I guess I never thought much about the Scriptural basis of "Away," but you raise a good point.
Jason: It is exciting, and a strange scene when you "zoom out," as you put it.
