A couple of days ago, I noted an increase in blog spamming on asisaid. Now, generally speaking, asisaid was ignored by blog spammers in the past, so I'm not sure how long it has been broken, but I've discovered the blacklists I checked against were no longer in service. No wonder the filter wasn't blocking spammers!
I've switched my filters around and merged in more of Brad Choate's SpamLookup (the official spam filter for MT, which, since it is written in Perl, can be easily integrated with SAFARI) so that I check not only the links but also the IP address of the poster. Hopefully this will work. If not, I plan on requiring authentication for commenting (e.g. you'll link your e-mail address with a password and verify that e-mail address), unless any of my regular readers object to that.

Have you looked at Akismet? I’ve used it on drupal and wordPress and have been real happy with it for both. I don’t know what you’d have to do to rig it in, but it may be worth it.
Your coding prowess always amazes me. While reading the post, I asked myself, “You can do that?”
I also like akismet as well.
Josiah, no I had not. Thanks for the tip. Akismet sounds intriguing. That might be another option. So far, with a prohibition on BBcode-style links (which I keep seeing in spam) and the blacklist checking, things are looking good. But, if they don’t stay that way, maybe I’ll add Akismet.
Thanks, Christopher. My coding abilities really aren’t very good — my code is very, very messy. I’m just stubborn enough to usually figure out something if it bugs me.
“IP address of the poster.”
One of the things I save when people leave comments on my blog is the IP address. I noticed that said person (x) will leave a comment using a certain IP only to have me ban that IP. Two days later they are back with the same spam crap but a different IP. I’m guessing since you are leaning towards logins you will probably end up there.
